The Editor, Sir:

I visited Devon House recently and observed a worker there using a hose to water some plants. I thought this was odd given the severe water shortage being experienced in Kingston.

A few days after my observation, someone called one of the talk shows and commented on the same matter. Shortly thereafter, the talk-show host commented that someone from Devon House had called to say that Devon House had its own well and so, apparently, the watering of plants there in the midst of severe water shortages in the city was not a problem.

In adopting the position that it has, the management of Devon House is missing a major ecological concept, which is that, "in nature, everything is connected". In other words, the well at Devon House taps into an underground aquifer, which also supplies other areas! Therefore, the watering of plants at Devon House at this time of severe water shortage in Kingston, albeit from its "own well", is ill-advised.
